- ACT UP + OCCUPY invitation
Over the past week, an occupation has sprung up a Union Square. Many LGBTQ occupiers have been braving nightly police evictions from the park, and general harassment by the police in order to claim this space as a place to deliver our message and build our community.
Occupations in NYC and around the United States and the world have faced brutality at the hands of the police. We have seen the harassment, manipulation, violence, and infringement of rights at the hands of the police, and governments which are supposed to honor democracy and rights of speech and assembly. Enough is enough.
The “American Protester Bill of Rights” is aimed at expressing a set of demands for governments to enact to remedy that. This document is currently a draft for community comment and participation.
